Sustainable Vending Solutions

	At Select Drinks we take great pride in being first with environmental initiatives and policies, and leading by example.  We continue to work towards a better future and with that we have installed many initiatives over the past few years that include:
	We have recently complemented our Save a Cup can and bottle collection schemes by providing Minima office recycling units.  The Minima is designed to save money on refuse collection costs, reduce office waste, and encourage users of Select Drinks vending facilities to recycle more, all the while helping to meet any CSR or sustainability initiatives that may have in place.    Placing a Minima recycling unit alongside a can and bottle vending machine will:   - ensure separation of the recyclable material from the main waste stream, - compact the material to up to 20% of it's original size - a business with 250 employees will save on average £1000 per year on the cost of refuse collections just by compacting recyclable waste, - reduce CO2 emissions by up to 65% - 1 truckload of crushed cans and bottles = 4 truckloads of uncrushed cans and bottles.    The Minima is simple to use, completely safe and user-friendly, and smaller than a water cooler.  In addition, 100,000 crushes uses less than £4 of electricity.
	Another scheme pioneered by Select Drinks during 2009 is our Recycling Rewards programme.  Using either our popular Geneva or Nexus range of machines, we can adapt the machine’s software and label the machine with clear instructions on how to dispense a drink without a cup, which the machine will keep an independent record of.  This scheme encourages the end users to either use their own crockery or re-use their plastic or paper cups rather than generate additional waste every time they vend a drink.    We then calculate regularly and provide a rebate at meaningful intervals based on the number of cups saved, usually either a penny per cup rebate directly back to the client’s account or a 1.2 pence per cup donation to a charity specified by the client, usually chosen in conjunction with their staff.   Our first Recycling Rewards site recently received a donation to their chosen charity for over £1000 as a result of their participation in Recycling Rewards.

	The VendSense Power Management System uses microprocessor technology and PIR sensors to switch off the power to any coffee or snack machine when no motion is detected within it's vicinity, within a pre-set timescale. Our findings are that this can eliminate as much as 64% of the electricity that would be used by a machine in any given week, based on an average working week of 8am - 8pm.
